Harmon STEM School is a K-8 private school. Our mission is to educate EVERY child through experience, exposure, and innovation. Our small class sizes and setting allow Harmon STEM to be an extension of home. We have a 0 tolerance policy for bullying and we encourage scholars to use biblical principles and stand up for what's right. We strongly encourage parents to involve themselves in their child's education. Every scholar needs their peers, teachers and parents to work together to achieve academic success.
Every child is capable of being successful at school. We strive for all scholars to be a "smarty" at Harmon STEM. Our hands-on approach to learning makes learning fun. We know that when scholars experience learning they have a better chance of retaining information. Scholars complete a number of projects in and out of school as a measure of learning. Using formative and summative assessments we're able to determine how scholars learn and how should teach.
The values we live at Harmon STEM teach scholars to be proud responsible learners. Hard Work requires effort even when the work is challenging. Excellence is not perfection but presents quality work that demonstrates best efforts. Creativity brings out each scholar's unique interpretation of their work. Teamwork requires the help of classmates, teachers, and parents to actively participate in the academic success and personal growth of all scholars.
Our doors open every morning at 7:30. We begin each day with an invocation to set the tone for the day. Classes begin promptly at 8:15 am. Dismissal is at 2:30 pm every day except Wednesdays. On Wednesdays we dismiss at 1 pm for staff development and meetings.
We provide a free and healthy breakfast to every scholar. We believe good nutrition is part of making sure scholars are healthy physically and emotionally.
Uniforms are a part of what we do and are therefore required. Scholars not in uniform will forfeit their learning for the day. Adherence to the dress code helps instill respect for rules and cooperation. Uniforms can be purchased at Ibiley Uniform Store located at 12933 N. Nebraska Avenue. Uniforms may also be purchased at www.ibiley.com.
We understand some scholars may need extra help. We have on-site tutoring which occurs during the day. Tutoring is a collective decision made by scholars, parents, and instructors.
We like to focus on the whole child at Harmon STEM. There can be circumstances which require scholars to speak with or be encouraged by someone other than parents and instructors. In those cases we have therapists and counselors who provide services at the school.
It is our business to make certain scholars are learning. We track the progress of scholars through projects, written assessments, and oral presentations regularly. Three times a year scholars are tested using Measured Academic Progress (MAP).
MAP is an assessment that will help everyone monitor academic progress, strengths, and difficulties.
